Don Keenan
Painting a subject without their knowing it, a surprise portrait, is always fraught with danger… and in the case of Don Keenan, doubly so. A larger than life character, electrifying, the trial lawyer community with his “Reptile Theory” of practice, a TV personality, renowned children’s advocate, often to be found unshaved wearing shorts, T-shirt, and always those sunglasses. An ex-marine of Irish blood and creator of the Kids Foundation and Bono aficionado. All this and more went into this painting. It was with relief that I saw it was warmly and enthusiastically received at its unveiling in Houston. Kudos to the courage of the man brave enough to commission this painting!

Gilbert T. Adams
Gilbert Adams struck me from the moment I met him as a rock of integrity: a silent, thoughtful, considered, wry-humored family man of great faith. A collector and friend, we watched our daughters grow up as they regularly accompanied us to conferences over the years. One day in San Francisco, I was set up for some portrait sessions and Gilbert walked by. At my daughter’s suggestion, he agreed to be photographed and changed his attire for the occasion. We enjoyed an unforgettable hour together as the camera recorded. I repainted the background several times… finally choosing the simplest of classical modeling to reflect the subject’s shadow free radiant inner light.
